ERMA – The Lower Cape May Regional High School wrestling program hosted a rare midweek tri-match and came away with a split Wednesday.

The Caper Tigers easily handled Holy Spirit, 70-9, before falling 41-24 to one of South Jersey’s best teams in St. Augustine Prep.

Lower Cape May sophomore Chase Hansen exited the tri still unbeaten on the season, improving to 23-0. The 2023 state medal winner won the most anticipated match of the tri, beating St. Augustine’s Anthony DePaul, 7-2, in a tiebreaker. Hansen is one of just 30 still-unbeaten wrestlers across the state.

Hansen won by 35-second fall over Bobby Bragg in the match against Holy Spirit.

Hansen was one of five Lower Cape May winners against the Hermits. Billy Whitney (113), Logan Haggerty (175) and Ben Rue (Hwt.) each won by pin and Isiah Carr-Wing (190) earned a decision.

Against Holy Spirit, Lower’s Cade Heacock (120), Gabe Tosto (144), Quinten Hagan (215) and Rue (Hwt.) joined Hansen as winners by fall. Danny Byrne (157) was a winner by major decision. Six other Lower wrestlers won by forfeit.

The Caper Tigers (14-3 in dual matches) are next in action Saturday when they host a quad with Haddon Heights, Pitman and Timber Creek starting at 10 a.m.
