Two local youth baseball teams win Mother’s Day weekend tournaments

A pair of local youth baseball teams each won tournaments over Mother’s Day weekend.

The Royals Baseball Club South 13U team competed in the West Deptford Mother’s Day wood bat tournament and won the championship by conceding only three runs over five games.

The team is made up of players from Lower Township, Middle Township and Somers Point.

Meanwhile, the South Jersey Ospreys 12U baseball team won the Delsea Thin Blue Line Tournament in Franklinville.

The Ospreys posted victories over FS Prime and Mid Atlantic Warriors in pool play on Saturday. They were then seeded fourth for the semifinal round and beat two higher-seeded teams Sunday to win the championship, They edged No. 1 seed Harrison Heat, 6-5, in the semifinal before beating second-seeded Delsea Dragons, 7-1, in the title game.

The Ospreys are made up of players from Middle Township, Lower Township, the Wildwoods and Avalon. They are coached by Chuck McDonnell, Bump Matthews and Mike Fritsch.
