Champions crowned at Scoop Taylor Tip-Off Classic basketball tournament

WILDWOOD CREST – The Scoop Taylor Tip-Off Classic grammar school basketball tournament concluded Sunday at the Crest Pier Recreation Center with four teams crowned champions.

The tournament included grades 5-6 and grades 7-8 boys and girls teams from Cape May County. Local grades 3-4 boys and girls teams also played showcase games in the event.

The following are results from the tournament championship games:

Junior Varsity Girls Championship – Upper Township 16, Avalon-Stone Harbor 13: Marissa Andrews, Marin Wildman, Maggie Morris and Leah Nicotera each scored four points to pace Upper. Elin Wuerker netted eight points and Oliva Roberts added three in the loss.

Junior Varsity Boys Championship – Wildwood Catholic Academy 27, Wildwood Islanders 14: Max Givner posted seven points and Jack McCann and Liam West each added five points to lead WCA. Brendan Sciarra registered 10 points for the Islanders.

Varsity Girls Championship – Margaret Mace 23, Upper Township 19: Aubrey Bradway led all scorers with 15 points and Iris Rulon chipped in four points for Margaret Mace.

Varsity Boys Championship – Crest Memorial 55, Wildwood Islanders 17: Michael Sciarra (16 points) and Owen Bannon (13 points) each were in double figures for Crest Memorial. Zamir Willis scored seven points for the Islanders.
