ATLANTIC CITY – Lower Cape May Regional High School wrestler Chase Hansen turned in another impressive performance at the state individual championships last weekend.
The junior placed in the top five in his weight class for the third straight season, finishing fourth at 138 pounds at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall.
Hansen (43-2), who finished fifth as a freshman and third last year, won five bouts during the tournament. He opened the competition Thursday with wins via pin and technical fall before suffering his first loss of the season via a 9-6 decision to Carson Walsh of Pope John XXIII in the quarterfinals.
He rebounded with a technical fall win in his first wrestleback match, then earned two more victories to advance to the third-place match, where he suffered a 5-2 defeat to Chase Quenault of Delbarton.
Hansen, a three-time district and region champion, finished the season with a 43-2 record and will carry a 134-5 career mark into his senior season in 2025-26.
Also for Lower Cape May, sophomore Bryce Paley (23-11) went 1-2 in the tournament at 120 pounds.
Middle Township’s Max Adelizzi (39-6) registered a solid performance at states, falling one victory short of a top-eight finish at 190 pounds.
The senior rallied from an opening-round loss to post three straight victories in wrestlebacks before losing in the fourth consolation round. He finishes his career with a program-record 123 career victories.
Adelizzi was one of three Middle Township wrestlers in the state tournament, along with junior Calvin Parke and senior Shaun Watkins.
Parke (34-9), who helped the Panthers win the South Jersey Group 2 team title earlier this season, lost his first two matches at 106 pounds.
Watkins (34-8) opened the tourney by posting a thrilling, 11-10, ultimate tiebreaker victory in the first round at 215 pounds before his season ended with back-to-back defeats.
