CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE – A battle of previously unbeaten high school girls lacrosse teams was decided in the final minute Wednesday afternoon.

Zoey Holmstrom scored off a free-position try with 20.3 seconds to play to give Cedar Creek a dramatic 6-5 win over Middle Township.

The goal was Cedar Creek’s second straight after Natalie Stoltz had given Middle a 5-4 lead early in the final quarter.

Middle (3-1) was the victim of a bit of bad luck in the final period as it had separate shot attempts hit the crossbar and the left post.

Holmstrom, one of the Cape-Atlantic League’s top freshmen, posted three goals, four draw controls and four ground balls to pace Cedar Creek (4-0). She has 16 goals in four games.

Jax Pickering scored three goals to lead Middle. Allison Brady added a goal and Jadea Lemma scooped five ground balls.

Both teams’ goalkeepers had solid games as Cedar Creek’s Elizabeth Amadio stopped 11 shots and Middle Township’s Lea Kern and Olivia Rogers stopped six shots apiece.
