The Lower Cape May Regional High School wrestling team won its second championship of the young season Saturday afternoon.

One week after winning the Pete Adams Memorial Tournament at Vineland High School, the Caper Tigers struck gold again by taking first place at the Gator Beast Wrestling Tournament at Gateway Regional High School.

Lower did so in dominating fashion, producing 11 finalists and nine champions to score 283.5 points to beat second-place Lenape (219) and eight other schools at the event.

Chase Hansen led Lower Cape May’s effort at the tournament. The three-time state championship qualifier was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler while winning the 144-pound weight class. Just the seventh wrestler to place first at the Gator Beast four times, Hansen also tied current head coach Billy Daminia’s program record of 139 career victories. He’ll have his first chance to break that mark at Monday’s home dual match against Hammonton.

Hansen was one of four Lower Cape May wrestlers to win by fall in the final at the Gator Beast. The others were Gabe Tosto (165), Shane Morrell (175) and David Douglass (190).

Meanwhile, Lower’s Tristan Rosemeyer (113), Bryce Paley (120) and Eli Glover (132) each won their championship bouts by technical fall. Danny Byrne (157) won his title match by major decision and Dom Marrero (138) took his title bout by decision.

Andrew Brant (150) and John Hearon (Hwt.) each lost in title matches to place second.

Ryan Morgan (126) and Caden Britton (215) each placed fourth.
