WILDWOOD – The Ocean City High School boys basketball team will enter the new year without a blemish on its record.

The Raiders posted a 66-55 victory over Shipley School (Pa.) in the Ray Martin Memorial Boys Bracket title game at the Boardwalk Basketball Classic Sunday at the Wildwoods Convention Center to run their record to 6-0.

“It’s great going into the middle of the season here at 6-0,” said Ocean City senior guard Dean Lappin, who scored 15 points in the win. “The momentum we have is good right now. The guys are playing well and the season’s going well for us so far.”

After the lead changed hands multiple times in the opening quarter, Ocean City later appeared on the verge of a blowout win midway through the third quarter, taking a 15-point lead at 41-26. But Shipley (5-7) surged from there, cutting the Raider advantage to five at 52-47 early in the fourth quarter. A few minutes later, however, Ocean City had the lead back up to double digits and was never again threatened.

“The way we play, we kind of keep our composure when teams make a run at us,” Lappin said. “We just have to keep playing aggressive and be strong with the ball.”

Josh Lenko poured in a game-high 27 points to lead Ocean City. He was 6 for 6 from the foul line. Luke Tjoumakaris joined Lappin with 15 points.

Ocean City next plays Tuesday at Middle Township in a matchup of teams expected to battle for the Cape-Atlantic American Conference title.
