A Wildwood Catholic Academy graduate experienced a moment she’ll likely never forget earlier this week.

Carly Murphy, a junior forward on the Swarthmore College women’s basketball team, sank a three-point shot with four seconds remaining to lift the Garnet to a dramatic 50-47 win over Haverford College Wednesday evening.

Murphy hit the game-winning shot from the left baseline to cap an excellent 13-point, five-rebound performance in the victory. It was the last of her three three-point field goals in three attempts in the game.

The win improved Swarthmore to 6-13 overall, 3-8 in Centennial Conference play.

Murphy averages 8.0 points and 5.2 rebounds for the Garnet. She has scored in double figures seven times this season.

Murphy graduated from Wildwood Catholic in 2023. She averaged 11.0 points and 6.8 rebounds as a senior, helping the Crusaders to a 24-6 record and a place in the South Jersey Non-Public B title game.

Swarthmore is next in action Saturday when it hosts Salisbury.
