WILDWOOD – After one of the most thrilling games you’d ever see, the girls basketball team from the smallest school in terms of enrollment in the Tri-County Conference will be playing in the 21-team league’s championship game.

Wildwood won a war of attrition against Glassboro, topping the visitors in triple overtime, 69-64, in a league semifinal game that featured numerous wild twists and turns that created a roller coaster of emotions for the players, coaches and fans.

The Lady Warriors (19-6), the TCC Classic Division champion and No. 2 seed in the tournament, will face top-seeded and state-ranked Gloucester Catholic in Saturday’s championship game at Washington Township High School. Gloucester Catholic was a 60-29 winner over Clearview in the other semifinal.

ADDISON TROIANO: Triple-double in win

Wildwood and Glassboro each had opportunities to seize control of the game, only to see the other fight back to even the proceedings. Wildwood had a four-point lead and possession with less than two minutes to play in regulation, until a pair of late turnovers allowed Glassboro to tie the score. The Lady Warriors also had the ball at the end of the period but failed to get off a shot.

Then in the first overtime, Wildwood failed to use fouls to give in the waning moments and saw Glassboro star Kezia Brackett bank in a shot with four seconds remaining to deadlock the game once again.

Glassboro later held a four-point lead with less than 1:30 to go in the second overtime, only to see Wildwood rally to tie on Angela Wilber’s short jump shot with 16 seconds remaining. Glassboro then missed a contested fallaway jump shot just before the buzzer.

Wildwood finally took control in the third overtime by scoring the first five points of the period only 15 seconds apart. Joelle Murphy’s traditional three-point play broke the tie, shortly before Addison Troiano’s steal and layup gave the Lady Warriors a 66-61 lead. Another Troiano layup with 25 seconds left increased a three-point lead to five and sealed the victory.

Troiano, a sophomore forward, enjoyed arguably the best game of her young career in the win. She posted her first career triple-double, tallying 13 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. Murphy was a major factor defensively throughout and also tallied 11 of her 17 points in the fourth quarter and overtime periods to go with eight rebounds. Rebecca Benichou scored a team-high 22 points, three of which came on a critical three-pointer that gave the Lady Warriors a two-point lead in the first overtime. And Wilber added 14 points, seven of which were scored in the overtime periods.

Brackett poured in 25 of her game-high 28 points in the second half for TCC Diamond Division champion Glassboro (19-7), which had a seven-game winning streak snapped with the loss. Lily Czubas added 15 points.

Saturday will mark Wildwood’s first appearance in the TCC championship game since the program’s first season in the league in 2003. (That fact needs some context, however, as the league suspended its title game from the late 2000s until the inception of its playoff tournament in 2021.)

Wildwood gets the chance to compete in it again in its final season in the TCC in 2026, as the school’s athletic program is set to rejoin the Cape-Atlantic League next scholastic year.
