LCM grad named conference Player of the Week for baseball

Hunter Ray has enjoyed a tremendous sophomore season so far for the Division I Fairleigh Dickinson University baseball team this spring.

On Tuesday, he was recognized for his recent efforts.

Ray, a 2024 graduate of Lower Cape May Regional High School, was named the Northeast Conference Player of the Week after a terrific performance in a series against Maryland Eastern Shore last weekend. Ray went 5 for 10 with four home runs, seven runs scored and nine RBI as FDU registered a three-game sweep of the series. His best output during the series came in Friday’s 12-7 victory in which he went 3 for 4 with two home runs, a double and four RBI.

Entering this week, Ray was leading the NEC in slugging percentage (.820), OPS (1.334), RBI (42), home runs (14) and at bats (111). He went into the week hitting .378, good for third on the team. The right fielder also was leading the team with 15 stolen bases.

Ray has helped FDU to an excellent start to the season. The Knights went into this week at 19-9 overall and currently sit atop the NEC standings with a 13-2 record in conference games.

Ray has started all 28 of the team’s games entering this week.

FDU was scheduled to play at Penn State in a non-conference game on Tuesday.

Ray hit .292 with eight home runs, 21 RBI and 29 runs scored while seeing action in 41 games (31 starts) as a freshman in 2025.

As a high school senior in 2024, Ray hit .434 with four home runs, 14 doubles, 23 RBI, 23 runs scored and 14 stolen bases for the Caper Tigers.
