An early start time for an away game on a Saturday did nothing to slow down the Middle Township High School football team.

The Panthers, heavy favorites against struggling Buena in a game played at Vineland’s Gittone Stadium, erupted for six first-half touchdowns and rolled to a 56-0 victory over the Chiefs.

The victory came on the heels of the Panthers’ first loss of the season last weekend and improved the team to 6-1.

Remi Rodriguez rushed for three touchdowns to lead Middle’s scoring. He was one of six Panther players to score touchdowns.

Rodriguez scored on runs of five, 27 and 11 yards.

Also for Middle, Austin McGraw caught an 18-yard scoring pass from Mark Oliver, Micah McAnaney returned an interception 21 yards for a score and Zamar Wakefield, Josiah Santiago and Shaun Watkins each added touchdown runs. McAnaney also caught a two-point conversion pass and Justin Verity went 6 for 6 on extra-point kicks.

shutout was Middle’s third of the season. Middle has allowed two touchdowns or less in five of its seven games.
