WILDWOOD – The Middle Township High School boys basketball team was pushed by Rancocas Valley in the first half of Saturday’s showcase game at the Boardwalk Basketball Classic.
The Red Devils trailed by just four, at 27-23, and appeared poised to challenge Middle for the entire game.
That’s when Anthony Trombetta got hot.
The senior guard for the Panthers knocked down three of his four three-pointers in the third quarter to highlight a 21-12 surge over the course of the period, and Middle went on to a comfortable 63-42 victory.
Trombetta was one of four Middle players in double figures, tying with Jamir McNeil with 14 points. Two of McNeil’s points came on a dunk in the fourth quarter that put the exclamation point on a brilliant second-half performance by the Panthers.
Re’Ale Basquin chipped in 11 points and Bubba McNeil added 10 points for Middle (5-1).
Montre Wilson scored 15 points for RV (4-3).
Middle is set to play another high-level showcase game Sunday at the Boardwalk Basketball Classic. The Panthers will take on St. Thomas Aquinas (7-0) at 1:15 p.m. The contest will be broadcast live on the Cape Atlantic Live YouTube channel and Facebook page.
