WILDWOOD – The Wildwood Catholic Academy girls basketball team extended its winning streak at the Boardwalk Basketball Classic to 15 games Thursday afternoon.

The Crusaders used a fast start to establish control early before pulling away for a comfortable 71-34 victory over Central Bucks East (Pa.) in the Genny Farnan Memorial Showcase Game.

Wildwood Catholic ran out to a 10-2 lead to start the game and was ahead 39-19 at the half before an 18-3 blitz in the third period turned the game into a rout.

Lola McGonigle netted a game-high 17 points, Lily King sank 16 points and Dani Daley added 13 points for the Crusaders.

The showcase game is named in honor of Farnan, a standout player at Wildwood Catholic who scored 1,025 career points before graduating in 2005. She went on to graduate from Rowan University and was working in the education field when she was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. Farnan passed away at age 29 in March 2016.

A non-profit named in her memory, NextGen30, provides financial assistance for graduating high school seniors who are attending college and promotes various acts of kindness across the Cape May County community.

Wildwood Catholic, which also beat Lower Moreland (Pa.) earlier in a showcase game earlier in the tournament, has not lost at the Boardwalk Basketball Classic since 2017. The Crusaders will play one more game at this year’s event when they face rival Wildwood on Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
