VIDEO: Wildwood completes sweep of Wildwood Catholic to extend win streak to four games

WILDWOOD – The Wildwood High School baseball team takes a four-game win streak into Thursday’s game against Salem after a sweep of Wildwood Catholic on back-to-back days this week.
The Warriors posted a 9-3 victory Tuesday in an evening game played under the lights before posting a 6-2 win less than 24 hours later Wednesday afternoon.
The results evened Wildwood’s record at 5-5, while Wildwood Catholic fell to 3-8.
Brian Cunniff struck out 10 batters against two walks and a hit batsman and conceded just one hit and no earned runs over six innings to get the pitching victory in Wednesday’s win. He also drove in two runs at the plate.
Broc Denke and Gianni Troiano each added RBI hits for Wildwood. Denke scored twice.
Alex Daniel had an RBI hit for Wildwood Catholic, which opened a 2-0 lead after three innings before Wildwood scored twice in the fourth and four times in the fifth to take the lead.
In Tuesday’s game, Cunniff, Denke, Trevor Troiano, Gianni Troiano and R.J. Blanda each had two hits for Wildwood, which scored six runs in the second inning to take command. Gianni Troiano had two runs scored and two RBI and Blanda also drove in two runs.
Trevor Troiano tossed a complete game in the victory, striking out 14 batters.
Ryan McGrath hit a two-run inside-the-park home run for Wildwood Catholic in the loss.
