Cape May Tech wins inaugural Cape-Atlantic League Sportsmanship Award

Posted: May 13th 2025

The Cape May County Technical High School was recently named the winner of the inaugural Cape-Atlantic League Sportsmanship Award, the school has announced.

According to a press release, the award recognizes one athletic program in the league that represents exemplary team sportsmanship, respect for officials, leadership/control of participants, regard for facility/equipment, and spirits/rules of the game.

To be eligible for the CAL Sportsmanship Award, athletic directors and coaches within the league must nominate a school. The nominations for the 2024-25 season were then shared directly with the league.

“This award means so much to us,” said Cape May Tech athletic director David Smith. “It means that despite the outcome of a contest, Cape May Tech athletics has been recognized for doing things the right way – echoing sportsmanship in all facets of our program. Success on the field is great, but this award shows that we are promoting an environment that will teach our athletes more than just how to play a game.”

In addition to the CAL Sportsmanship Award, Cape May Tech also won the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Sportsmanship Award for the 2023-24 scholastic year. This award acknowledges schools that display outstanding sportsmanship and ethical behavior in their athletic programs.
