WILDWOOD – The Lower Cape May Regional High School football team now has almost two weeks to plot its potential revenge.
The Caper Tigers won their third straight game Friday, controlling the contest from start to finish in a thorough 34-0 victory over an injury-depleted Wildwood team under windy conditions at Maxwell Field.
Lower (4-1) now sets its sights on its next game on Friday, Oct. 6, at Pitman. It’s a game the team’s players have been anticipating since last season, when Pitman pulled off a shocking 40-6 victory on Lower’s home field, a result that cost the Tigers the West Jersey Football League’s Royal Division title.
“We have a bye here, so it gives us a chance to get a little healthier. Not that we’re all that banged up but a little rest will definitely help,” Lower coach Lance Bailey said.
Bailey then downplayed the revenge factor, saying, “We’re just trying to go 1-0 each week and Pitman is the team that’s next on our schedule.”
Friday’s game was never in doubt for Lower Cape May, which took advantage of having the wind at its back and used good field position in the first quarter to run out to a 20-0 lead. The advantage was 27-0 at the half.
Isiah Carr-Wing needed just 12 carries to rush for 204 yards and three touchdowns. He didn’t have a carry in the second half. Carr-Wing scored on runs of 20, 16 and 39 yards.
He now has run 71 times for 765 yards and 12 touchdowns through five games.
“He’s got natural ability and instinct you can’t teach,” Bailey said. “It’s helped that our offensive line has been lights out the last three weeks as well. But some of the things he does on the field, you just shake your head a little.”
Carr-Wing was quick to credit his offensive line as well. The starters include tackles Ben Rue and Will Garoh, guards Quintin Hagan and Jake Hearon and center Ron Neenhold.
“I couldn’t do it without my line and my quarterback (Hunter Ray),” Carr-Wing said. “We have one of the best lines in our conference. I couldn’t do it without them.”
Carr-Wing said he and his teammates have already turned their full attention to Pitman.
“We go one game at a time, but now it’s time for revenge for that loss,” he said.
Ray and Logan Haggerty each added touchdown runs for Lower in the win over Wildwood (1-3), which played without two-way starters Ryan Troiano and Nate Wolf due to injury.
Lower, which is 2-0 in Royal Division games, can clinch at least a share of the division title by beating Pitman.
“It’s time to take back what’s ours,” Carr-Wing said.
Wildwood's Gabe Rossett returns a kick as Lower Cape May's Bryan McNeal looks to make a tackle during Friday's game.
