Middle’s Adelizzi, Matthews win titles at Hammonton wrestling tournament

Middle Township High School’s wrestling team produced two champions and two third-place finishers at the eight-team Hammonton Kick-Off Tournament Saturday.

Two of Middle’s upper-weight wrestlers were dominant in their respective weight classes as Max Adelizzi (190) and Maurice Matthews (Hwt.) each won all three of their bouts by fall to claim individual championships.

Brian Zuzaitis (165) and Sam Keppel (175) each claimed third place after losing semifinal matches before bouncing back to win consolation bouts.

Donata Kelly (120) and X’zavier Swinton (150) each finished fourth, while Tyler King (138) and Connor Rowands (144) each placed fifth.

Middle finished fourth in team scoring, accumulating 134.5 points. West Deptford (258.5) was the team winner.

Middle next wrestles Tuesday at St. Augustine Prep. The Panthers then host Oakcrest on Thursday at 6 p.m. before competing in a tournament at West Orange High School on Friday.
