The wait is finally over.
The Wildwood High School boys soccer team won the program’s first championship of any kind when the Warriors beat Clayton, 5-1, on Friday to clinch the Tri-County Classic Division title.
The win moved Wildwood to 13-3-1 overall, 9-0 in TCC games. The Warriors have one division game remaining but hold a two-game lead over second-place Pennsville.
The division title wasn’t the only major accomplishment for the team on Friday. Senior Noureddine “Nunu” Bedderi scored two goals to up his season total to 32, breaking the program’s single-season scoring record previously held by Tyler Tomlin, who bagged 31 as a senior in 2018.
And that wasn’t all.
Senior Broc Denke set a new program record for career wins by a goalkeeper with the 22nd victory of his career. The previous record of 21 was set by Dennis Olgun in 2018.
Gavin Burns added two goals and Kelan Miller chipped in one for Wildwood in the win over Clayton.
The Warriors finish the regular season with their final Classic Division game on Tuesday at home against Gloucester Catholic. A win in that contest would represent another milestone of most wins by the team in a season. The 2018 Wildwood set the previous record by going 13-6.
