Sam Ritti needed a couple of extra holes to claim top honors at the Cape May County Golf Championships at Shore Gate Golf Club Monday.
Ritti beat teammate Archie Schreiber on the second playoff hole for the title after the Raider pair each shot an excellent 78 in the 18-hole tournament.
After each posted par on the first playoff hole, Ritti tapped in for bogey from a foot away on the second to decide the winner after Schreiber had double-bogeyed the same hole.
Ritti, who emerged as the individual champion after placing third at last year’s event, led an excellent showing by the Raiders, who claimed the team championship as well. In addition to the 78s posted by Ritti and Schreiber, Alex Bayham posted an 85 for third place and Logan Ochs carded an 89 for seventh place as all four of Ocean City’s scorers broke 90 for a team score of 330. Ocean City’s fifth golfer was Chris Payne (102).
Lower Cape May placed in team scoring at 352, led by a third-place finish by Cole Bada with an 85. Eric Coombs placed fifth with an 87, Chase Hansen was seventh at 89 and Cooper Daly finished 10th at 91. Gabriel Donaghy was Lower’s fifth scorer at 108.
Wildwood Catholic’s Jack Belisario finished fifth with an 87 and teammate Nick DiStaulo placed ninth at 90.
Max Beall carded a 94 for an 11th-place finish and Liam Porter posted a 95 to finish 12th to lead Cape May Tech. Dylan DiLossi was Middle Township’s top finisher at 104.
Ocean City’s Lillian Flora was the top female finisher with a 90.
