The Lower Cape May Regional High School wrestling team posted a couple of important accomplishments in sweeping its final quad of the dual meet season on Saturday.
The Caper Tigers beat Ocean City (53-18), Cherokee (58-15) and Washington Township (39-32) to run their record to 17-3 on the season.
The win over Ocean City, which came in the first of the three matches, gave head coach Billy Damiana his 150th career victory in his ninth season.
The sweep of the quad also allowed Lower Cape May to clinch the top seed for the upcoming South Jersey Group II Tournament. That means the Caper Tigers will host sectional quarterfinal and semifinal matches on Monday, Feb. 16. Should Lower advance to the South Jersey title match, the Tigers will also host that on Wednesday, Feb. 18. As the top-rated Group II team in the state per power points, Lower would also host a state semifinal match on Friday, Feb. 20, should it win the South Jersey title.
The state championship match is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 22, at Rutgers University.
In Saturday’s quad, Bryce Paley (120), Eli Glover (132, 138), Shane Morrell (175) and David Douglass (190) each won three bouts for Lower. Tristan Rosemeyer (113), Chase Hansen (144), Danny Byrne (157), Aston Ray (165) and John Hearon (Hwt.) each won twice.
Lower’s final dual meet of the season is set for Tuesday at Millville.
