WILDWOOD – A high school softball contest featuring two extremely young rival teams went the way of the home team Monday afternoon.
Sophomores Addison Troiano and Emma Contreras led the way as Wildwood posted a 15-0 victory over Wildwood Catholic Academy at Fox Park.
Troiano went 3 for 4 with a double, a long home run that cleared the fence in left-center field, three RBI and four runs scored to lead Wildwood’s offense, while Contreras struck out 11 and missed a four-inning perfect game only due to an infield hit that rolled about 30 feet up the first-base line and came to rest on the foul line in the opening inning.
Contreras also went 3 for 4 with two doubles at the plate for Wildwood (7-6).
Charlotte Booth and Laila Fathi each added two hits for the Lady Warriors, which saw every one of its starters record at least one hit. Cara Millard tripled and Aly Lillo doubled for Wildwood, which recorded 17 hits as a team.
Yae Billiris had the infield single for Wildwood Catholic (2-7).
