CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE – The Middle Township High School field hockey team snapped a four-game losing streak in dramatic fashion Monday afternoon.
Layla Hagan’s goal with only 34 seconds remaining broke a deadlock and gave Middle a thrilling 2-1 win over Timber Creek in a non-league contest.
Hagan had also assisted on teammate Isla Berkey’s first varsity goal in the second quarter that led to the teams playing to a 1-1 draw into halftime.
Frankie Taylor made an astonishing 22 saves in goal in the win.
Middle (4-5) has been one of the more interesting local stories of the fall sports season. The Lady Panthers have played most of the season with just 12 players, although Middle rostered the minimum 11 for Monday’s game due to an injury to one of its players.
