Catching up with former high school athletes from the area competing at the college level and beyond:
Caroline Callagher (senior-Cabrini field hockey-MTHS) has been named to the inaugural National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III Senior Team. Also a first team Atlantic East Conference selection for the third straight season, Gallagher posted 22 goals and a single-season program-record 18 assists to help Cabrini to a 10-9 record this fall. She was named MVP of the ECAC championship game after assisting on the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Widener. Gallagher, who played three seasons of field hockey at Cabrini, tallied 59 goals and 38 assists over her career. She is the program’s all-time assists leader. Gallagher is also a lacrosse standout at Cabrini. …
WINTER FAVRE
Winter Favre (sophomore-Army rugby-WHS) was a regular contributor as a flanker for the Cadets this fall. She recorded a try from 25 yards to help Army top rival Navy, 42-22, to secure the inaugural star as part of the Army-Navy Star Series in the team’s season finale. Army finished the fall season at 4-4. Favre was a basketball standout as a high school athlete, helping Wildwood to a 24-6 finish that culminated with an appearance in the South Jersey title game as a senior in 2020. …
Madie Gibson (professional soccer player-Athlone Town, Ireland-LCMR) was recently named to the Professional Footballers’ Association of Ireland Women’s Premier Division Team of the Year for 2023. Gibson helped Athlone Town win the FAI Cup title on penalties after a 2-2 draw with Shelbourne earlier this month. She scored 12 goals across all competitions in 22 appearances in 2023. …
DIANTE MILES
Diante Miles (sophomore-Stockton basketball-WHS) posted 11 points and Martin Anguelov (junior-Stockton basketball-WCA) made a clutch pull-up jump shot in the final minute to help the Ospreys to a 76-73 win over Rowan in the New Jersey Athletic Conference opener for both teams earlier this week. Through five games, Miles is averaging 9.4 points and is second on the team in both three-point field goals with 10 and steals with seven, while Anguelov is averaging 8.0 points and leads the team with 14 assists. Stockton (3-2) is next in action Wednesday at Rutgers-Camden. …
Imene Fathi (sophomore-Stockton basketball-WHS) scored a team-best 12 points to go with three rebounds, three assists and two steals to help the Ospreys to a 48-40 win over Rowan in the NJAC opener for both teams earlier this week. One game earlier, Fathi made 6 of 7 three-point attempts and scored a career-high 24 points in a 60-56 loss to Alvernia. For the season, Fathi is averaging a team-best 12.2 points, leads the team with 11 three-point field goals and is second on the team in assists with 15. Teammate Brianna Robinson (sophomore-Stockton basketball-MTHS) has started all five games so far for Stockton and is averaging 5.2 points while shooting 87.5 percent from the free-throw line. Stockton next plays Monday at home against Delaware Valley. …
GABBY TURCO
Gabby Turco (junior-LaSalle basketball-WCA) shot 7 for 10 from the floor and scored a game-high 16 points to go with six rebounds in just 14 minutes due to foul trouble to help the Explorers to a 72-44 win over Rider earlier this week. Turco has started all five games so far and is averaging 7.2 points and 5.2 rebounds while shooting 50 percent from the floor. Turco played her first two college seasons at Division II St. Anselm before transferring to LaSalle after last scholastic year. LaSalle next plays Wednesday against Penn at the Palestra. …
Marianna Papazoglou (junior-Penn basketball-WCA) recorded two rebounds in six minutes in a 92-46 win over Chapman in the first of a three-game road trip in California on Wednesday. Papazoglou has seen action in three of Penn’s four games so far this season. Penn next plays Saturday at San Diego State. …
Jahlil White (junior-Temple basketball-WCA) was named the Big Five Player of the Week and was named to the American Athletic Conference honor roll after posting consecutive double-doubles in season-opening wins over Maryland Eastern Shore and Navy earlier this month. He most recently recorded 11 points and six rebounds in a 78-73 loss to Columbia but left the game early due to a hand injury. He did not play in a 77-76 home loss to Ole Miss earlier this week. For the season, White is second on the team in scoring average at 15.0 and leads the team in rebounding at 8.7 per game while shooting 80 percent from the foul line. Teammate Taj Thweatt (junior-Temple basketball-WCA) played three minutes in the loss to Ole Miss. Temple next plays Wednesday at home against LaSalle. …
Shane Whitney (junior-Drexel wrestling-LCMR) is competing at heavyweight for the Dragons this winter. He has lost two decisions in his two appearances so far this season. Drexel next competes Dec. 3 at home in the Dragon Duals. …
CARLY MURPHY
Carly Murphy (freshman-Swarthmore basketball-WCA) poured in a career-high 21 points to go with four rebounds and a steal in 27 minutes off the bench to lead the Garnets to a 55-53 win over Muhlenberg earlier this week. She’s averaging 9.3 points and 2.8 rebounds and is shooting 90 percent from the free-throw line through four games. Swarthmore (2-2) is next in action Tuesday at home against Washington College. …
Brock Zurawski (freshman-Rider wrestling-LCMR) lost a 5-0 decision at 197 pounds against sixth-ranked Michigan during the Broncs’ most recent match. Rider is next scheduled to compete at the Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas on Dec. 1. …
Wesley Tosto (junior-Ursinus wrestling-LCM) went 1-2 at 149 pounds at the Rachich Rumble earlier this month. Ursinus is next in action Dec. 1-2 at the York College New Standard Invitational. …
Lindsay Robbins (junior-Millersville swimming-CMT) finished second in the 200 freestyle and fifth in the 50 freestyle to help the Marauders to a 161-95 win over Kutztown recently. Millersville next swims Dec. 2 at Arcadia. …
Chase McCray (freshman-Misericordia swimming-MTHS) was part of the second-place 200 free relay team, placed fourth in the 50 freestyle, was fifth in the 200 freestyle and was part of the fifth-place 200 medley relay team in a 189-73 loss to Scranton earlier this month. Misericordia is currently in its midseason break and next competes Jan. 13 at Marywood. …
Lindsay Holden (sophomore-Neumann basketball-LCMR) posted three points and two assists in the Knights’ 71-63 loss to Widener earlier this week. Holden has played in all six of the team’s games so far this season and is averaging 2.3 points per game. Neumann next plays on Monday at Eastern. …
JOSH WRIGHT
Josh Wright (junior-Rowan basketball-CMT) scored nine points in the Profs’ 76-73 loss to Stockton earlier this week. On Nov. 11, Wright scored a game-high 20 points and sank two free throws with four seconds to play to lift Rowan to a 78-77 win over Wooster. For the season, Wright is averaging 13.3 points and 2.5 rebounds while shooting 85.7 percent from the foul line. Rowan (3-1) next plays Saturday against Mary Washington in the CNU/Holiday Inn Invitational in Newport News, Va. …
Kimmy Casiello (sophomore-Widener basketball-WCA) recorded two points and two steals in the Pride’s 71-63 win over Neumann earlier this week. Casiello has played in all six games so far and is averaging 2.5 points while posting 10 assists and eight steals. Teammate Mia Elisano (freshman-Widener basketball-MTHS) has seen action in four games so far and is averaging 1.3 points and 1.5 rebounds. Widener (6-0) is next in action Wednesday at King’s College. …
Mike Cronin (freshman-Penn State Abington-LCMR) has seen action in three of the team’s four games so far this season and has scored five points. Penn State Abington (2-2) is next in action Tuesday at Penn State Berks. …
KATE HERLIHY
Kate Herlihy (junior-Rowan basketball-MTHS) posted 49 points, 12 rebounds and eight steals over a two-game stint that included wins over Keene State and Eastern. The 27 points scored against Keene State were a career-high. For the season, Herlihy is averaging a team-best 14.8 points while shooting 87.5 percent from the free-throw line. She also leads the team in both three-pointers made with eight and in steals with 15. …
Justin Harper (freshman-Georgian Court basketball-WCA) registered two points and two rebounds in a recent 80-59 loss to Staten Island. Harper has seen action in all three games thus far and is averaging 2.3 points per game. Georgian Court (1-2) is next scheduled to play this weekend in the Davenport Tournament at Gannon University.
