
The Lower Cape May Regional High School golf team enjoyed a strong showing at the Central-South Group I championship match earlier this week.
Competing at Cream Ridge Golf Club in Upper Freehold Township, Lower placed second out of eight teams in the Group I sectional.
The Caper Tigers tied with Woodstown for second place at 358 total strokes in the 18-hole event. Schalick won the Group I team title at 349.
Lower Cape May’s Alex Sekela missed out on the individual title. He shot 83 to finish one stroke behind champion Jaxon Weber of Schalick.
Eric Coombs was Lower Cap May’s second scorer, placing sixth with an 88. Matthew Riess (91, tied for 13th place) and Cole Bada (96, tied for 24th) were Lower Cape May’s other scorers. Tom McCullen also participated for Lower Cape May.
Cape May Tech and Wildwood also each qualified for the sectional tournament. Justin Walker led Cape May Tech with a fifth-place finish with an 86, leading the Hawks to a fifth-place showing as a team. Also for Tech, Robert McHale placed tied for 13th with a 91, Max Beall was 17th with a 92 and Aiden Wolverton was 27th at 100.
Burke Fitzsimons shot 104 and placed 31st to lead Wildwood, which qualified for the sectional meet for the first time in more than three decades.
