The combined Middle Township-Dennis Township Senior League softball team captured the District 16 championship earlier this week by beating Northfield, 11-1, in the title game.

Sammie Schaffer and Kahlan Schaffer each went 2 for 2 and combined for an RBI and a run scored and Julianna Sittineri had a triple and two RBI to lead the Middle-Dennis offense.

Megan Turner added a hit and two RBI, Grace Hall and Charlotte Romberger each posted a hit and two runs scored, Emma Gotwols and Tori Atwood each chipped in hits and Elle Curvan walked three times and scored two runs.

Sammie Schaffer and Turner combined on a five-inning one-hitter on the mound.

Middle-Dennis reached the title game after a 9-4 win over Northfield and an 11- victory over Greater Wildwood in earlier rounds of the tournament.

The district championship is the sixth in as many seasons for some of the members of the Middle-Dennis team.

Middle-Dennis is hosting the Section 4 Tournament and will play Pennsville in the opening round on Sunday at 5 p.m.
