CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE – The Middle Township High School field hockey team had very little trouble advancing past the first round of the South Jersey Group II playoffs Tuesday afternoon.

The Lady Panthers, seeded seventh in the bracket, controlled play from the start and rolled to a 4-0 victory over No. 10 Ocean Township.

Middle scored a goal in each quarter and allowed Ocean Township very little in the way of offense – Lady Panther goalkeeper Frankie Taylor needed to make just two saves for the shutout – on the way to the win.

Julia Clarke and Abbey Cappelletti scored in the opening half and Gwen Boal and Layla Hagan tallied in the second half to account for the game’s scoring.

Allie Brady added an assist.

Back Sydney Hunter was credited with a defensive save.

Middle improved to 13-5 with the win, while Ocean Township finished at 10-9-1.

Middle will face a tough task in the next round. The team will play at No. 2 seed Haddonfield on Thursday. Haddonfield (13-4-2) was a 4-0 winner over No. 15 Robbinsville in its opening-round game.
