Martin Anguelov continued his recent torrid scoring pace for the Richard Stockton University men’s basketball team Wednesday evening.
After two straight games in which he scored more than 30 points, the Wildwood Catholic Academy graduate lifted his game to even greater heights in a wild 105-99 road win over The College of New Jersey in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game.
Anguelov poured in 45 points to break a 27-year-old program record in the victory. His output eclipses that of Carl Cochran, who scored 41 points in a game in 1997. Anguelov and Cochran are the only players in Stockton men’s basketball history to score more than 40 points in a game.
Anguelov, who helped Wildwood Catholic to a South Jersey title in 2020, shot 17 for 27 from the floor (63 percent), including 6 for 11 from three-point range, and also sank 5 of 6 free throws in the contest. He also added four rebounds, two assists and two steals while playing a game-high 37 minutes.
Stockton (5-1 overall, 2-0 NJAC) rallied late to get the victory over TCNJ. The Ospreys trailed 92-85 with five minutes remaining before finishing the game on a 20-7 run.
Anguelov is averaging a team-best 21.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per outing through six games. He also leads the team in three-point baskets with 16 and is shooting 89.3 percent from the foul line, making 25 of 28 attempts.
Stockton next plays Saturday at home at 3 p.m. against William Paterson.
