WILDWOOD CREST – The Lower Cape May Regional High School swimming team has advanced in the state tournament.
The Caper Tigers, seeded fifth in the South Jersey Group C Tournament, posted a comfortable 101-69 victory over No. 8 Sterling at the Joseph Von Savage Memorial Pool Monday.
Lower Cape May (7-3) won all but two events en route to the victory.
Drew Kronemeyer led the way for the Caper Tigers with four first-place finishes. Individually, he claimed first place in the 50 and 100 freestyle races. He also teamed with Eddie Fucci, Conley Ryan and Kallen Garagozzo for first place in the 200 freestyle relay and with Rucci, Garagozzo and Joe Cannavo for first place in the 400 free relay.
Fucci (100 butterfly), Garagozzo (200 freestyle), Cannavo (100 backstroke) and Giacomino Ruff (500 freestyle) were also individual winners for Lower.
Cannavo, Fucci, Alana Wright and Colin McAnaney joined to win the 200 medley relay for the Tigers.
A.J. Granero (200 individual medley, 100 backstroke) added two second-place finishes for Lower. Cannavo (100 butterfly), Garagozzo (100 freestyle), Ruff (100 breaststroke) and McAnaney (500 freestyle) also chipped in second-place finishes.
Lower Cape May will swim at fourth-seeded Woodstown in the sectional quarterfinal round on Thursday.
