ERMA – A fast start allowed the Mainland Regional High School girls lacrosse team to complete a sweep of its season series with Lower Cape May Monday afternoon.
The Mustangs dominated possession for most of the first half en route to an 18-6 win over the Caper Tigers. After a relatively slow start to the scoring, Mainland put four in the net over the final six minutes of the opening quarter while holding Lower scoreless to jump ahead. They then extended their lead to 10-2 at the break.
Lauren LaMonaca was a standout for the Mustangs (4-1) with five goals, five assists, nine ground balls and six draw controls. Ava Sheeran led Mainland with six goals and Avery Notaro added three goals.
Nora Shoffler scored three goals and Olivia Lewis added two for Lower Cape May (4-4). Goalkeeper Sophia Vitelli made 17 saves.
