WILDWOOD – The seniors from the Wildwood High School football team, their careers newly complete, locked arms with head coach Ken Loomis and walked from one end zone to the other as their teammates and fans applauded them following Monday’s NJSIAA consolation game against Haddon Township.

The praise was well deserved.

A few moments earlier, those seniors helped finish off a 22-8 Wildwood victory in the season finale, marking the first time the program won at least four games in a season since going 6-4 in 2012.

“It’s a testament to the boys, because they put in the work in the offseason with the lifting and then we were out here all summer long practicing, so they put in the work,” Loomis said. “The schedule lined up with a lot of home games and we had a lot of juniors and seniors who’ve been three- and four-year starters. All the credit goes to them with their hard work and effort.”

Wildwood (4-6) won the game through its defense. The Warriors forced three turnovers by the Hawks, coming on two fumble recoveries by Josh Miller and an interception by Trevor Troiano.

“The defense played great,” Loomis said. “We got some turnovers and we only gave up one score and a safety, so we played great on defense. And then on offense we were able to move the ball a little bit.”

Senior quarterback Jordan Dozier led the Warrior offense. He tossed touchdown passes to Trevor Troiano and Gianni Troiano in the first half before running for a touchdown of his own early in the second half. Dozier also threw two two-point conversion passes.

The victory also allowed Wildwood to erase the memories of a lopsided loss to Buena in the team’s previous game.

“It was awesome for them to play like this. They ended the season the way they deserved it to be ended,” Loomis said. “This was a nice, good, solid win. A confident win. They balled out and they showed out. This was very impressive. I couldn’t be prouder of these guys.”
