Lower and Tech finish tight swim meet in a draw

Two local rivals got together for a swim meet Tuesday afternoon at the Joseph Von Savage Memorial Pool but the question of which team is better never got settled.

Cape May Tech’s Quinn Romano, Amelia Worthington, Angelo Acevedo and Dane Kennedy edged second Lower Cape May’s 400 freestyle relay team by 2 ½ seconds for third place in the final event to help the Hawks pull even for an 85-85 tie with the Caper Tigers.

Cape May Tech’s Kalyn Baron, Max Beall, Axel McCoy and Jacob Pawlilski won the 400 free relay, with Lower Cape May’s Kaitlyn Nordberg, Joe Cannavo, A.J. Granero and Giacomo Ruff placing second. Tech clinched the tie when its second 400 free relay team secured third place.

Collin Geiger led Cape May Tech’s efforts with individual victories in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle. Baron (200 individual medley) and Dane Kennedy (500 freestyle) also earned first-place finishes for the Hawks.

Cannavo (100 backstroke), Ruff (100 breaststroke), A.J. Granero (200 freestyle) and Lauren Courthamel (100 butterfly) each won individual events for Lower Cape May.

In the other relay events, Lower Cape May took first in the 200 medley relay behind Cannavo, Ruff, Crouthamel and Stephen Lutjen and Cape May Tech won the 200 freestyle relay through Beall, Geiger, Axel McCoy and J.T. Matthews.
