WILDWOOD – Sarah Farrow will most likely never forget her 18th birthday.
The senior from the Middle Township High School girls basketball team recorded her 500th career rebound in leading the Lady Panthers to a 52-14 victory over Hatboro-Horsham (Pa.) Sunday at the Boardwalk Basketball Classic at the Wildwoods Convention Center.
Needing two rebounds to reach the milestone going into the game, Farrow grabbed her 500th carom before the game was two minutes old. She scored eight of her team-high 14 points in the opening quarter when Middle took immediate control of the game with a 17-2 run. Farrow also finished with eight rebounds and three steals in the win.
Abbey Cappelletti hit three straight three-pointers in the late stages of the second quarter and finished with nine points for Middle (4-0). Ainsley Frederick added eight points.
Following the game, Farrow was presented with a banner commemorating her 500th career rebound before her teammates serenaded her with a rendition of “Happy Birthday.”
Middle is next in action Saturday against Atlantic County Institute of Technology.
In another Boardwalk Basketball Classic game from Monday involving a Cape May County team:
Girls - Wildwood Catholic 57, Atlantic City 33: In the Genny Farnan Memorial Showcase Game, Wildwood Catholic used terrific outside shooting and solid defense to methodically pull away from the Vikings. Dani Daley (21 points), Lily King (20 points) and Damiya Carter (13 points) each reached double figures and combined for seven three-pointers for Wildwood Catholic (4-1). The Crusaders hit eight three-pointers overall. The game is named for former Wildwood Catholic standout Genny Farnan, who passed away at age 29 after a battle with brain cancer.
