Two local high school wrestling rivals will face off Tuesday after each enjoyed championship performances over the weekend.
Lower Cape May will travel to Middle Township for the annual regular-season meeting between the two schools. Junior varsity matches begin at 5 p.m., with the varsity hitting the mat at approximately 6:30 p.m.
It’ll be the first meeting between the two teams since Middle beat the Caper Tigers on criteria after a tie in last season’s South Jersey Group II title match.
Lower, ranked 17th in the state, will enter Tuesday’s match at 10-0 after winning the Cinnaminson Duals for the second straight year on Saturday.
The Tigers dispatched Raritan (56-15) and Woodstown (62-16) in the early rounds before running past Wall (51-15) in the final.
Tristan Rosemeyer (113), Bryce Paley (120), Eli Glover (132/138), Danny Byrne (157) and Dave Douglass (190) each won three bouts for Lower, which had a handful of its wrestlers not participate in all three matches. Chase Hansen (138/144), Gabe Tosto (150), Dom Marrero (138/144) and John Hearon (Hwt.) each won twice.
Middle, meanwhile, produced six champions among nine top-three finishers to win the Buc Classic at Red Bank Regional High School. The Panthers produced 269 team points to easily finish ahead of second-place Manasquan (197.5) at the 18-team event.
Calvin Parke (106), R.J. Garden (138), Tyler King (150), R.J. Attenborough (165), Noah Nagle (175) and Connor Hagan (190) all won individual titles for Middle. Landon Shivers (113) lost in the championship to place second and Robert Hodges (215) and Nate McCrone (Hwt.) each finished third.
