WILDWOOD – For the second time this season against its biggest rival, the Wildwood High School baseball team’s offense needed some time to come alive.

A six-run fourth inning erased a 2-0 deficit and the Warriors went on to post an 8-3 victory over Wildwood Catholic Academy Friday evening at Maxwell Field. The result came a week after Wildwood broke open a close game by scoring six times over the final two innings in a 9-0 win over the Crusaders.

In the most recent game, Wildwood Catholic took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning on RBI hits by Jude Landis and Andrew Baldt.

Wildwood finally got on the board in the fourth on Louis Sewell’s two-run single. Later in the inning, Owen Bannon hit an RBI infield single and Trevor Troiano ripped a two-run single before later scoring on a wild pitch.

Wildwood Catholic got a run back in the top of the sixth on another RBI by Landis o n bases-loaded walk, but Wildwood added two more runs in the bottom of the inning as Gianni Troiano hit an RBI double and Michael Blanda scored on a throwing error.

Trevor Troiano went 3 for 3 with a walk, two RBI and two runs scored and Gianni Troiano had two hits for Wildwood (10-5), which won its fifth straight game.

Bannon was the winning pitcher, striking out three and allowing just one run in 3.1 innings in relief.

Despite the loss, Wildwood Catholic (5-8) consistently threatened throughout by posting 13 hits. But the Crusaders failed to come through at important times, leaving 13 runners on base. Wildwood Catholic left the bases loaded in three different innings and stranded runners on second and third in another.

Ashe O’Donnell went 3 for 4 with two doubles, John Livingston went 3 for 4 and Landis and Nick Antonicello went 2 for 3 for Wildwood Catholic.

Wildwood Catholic is next in action Saturday afternoon at Pilgrim Academy while Wildwood is off until Thursday when it faces Lower Cape May.
