VIDEO: Middle gets off to good start, but critical turnovers and big running plays allow ACIT to eventually pull away

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE – The Middle Township High School football team managed to score the first points of Friday’s game against Atlantic County Institute of Technology, but the Redhawks used big plays to rally from there and pulled away for a 27-6 win.

Davon Anderson two-yard scoring run – his fifth touchdown of the season so far – gave Middle a 6-0 lead early in the game.

But the first of two critical miscues by Middle gifted ACIT a score, as Tamir Waters scooped up a fumble and dashed in from five yards out later in the first quarter. The extra-point kick gave ACIT the lead for good.

Middle appeared in good shape midway through the second quarter when a good punt and a penalty pinned ACIT inside its own 5-yard line. But Landon Peddicord, on a second-and-10 play, burst through the ride side of the Panther defdense and galloped 97 yards for a touchdown to give ACIT a 13-6 lead at the half.

Peddicord reeled off another long touchdown run early in the second half, racing to the end zone from 76 yards out.

The Redhawks (2-1) completed the scoring early in the fourth quarter when Sinsir Macon recovered a fumble in the end zone.

Peddicord rushed 16 times for 217 yards for ACIT.

Middle (1-2) is next in action Friday at Wildwood.
